This machine has worked great in cleaning up some used jewelry I bought online. I used it with a commercial jewelry cleaner liquid soap, so that might help with effectiveness. I was pretty amazed in how well it cleaned out the tight undergallery of a tanzanite ring - the stones were a completely different color (darker and better) than before the cleaning and actually sparkled again. Just one three-minute cycle seems to do the trick but for really gunky undergalleries more cycles are likely needed.I was able to find this cleaner new on Amazon for $18 - if there aren't any available at that price now, I recommend waiting to see if that price will be posted again.I would NOT use this machine with fine pave settings or cheaply crafted prong settings because it knocked out a diamond baguette in one of my other rings (not high quality) on the first cleaning. Fortunately, whatever it knocks out settles to the bottom of the stainless steel compartment. I also would not use it for glued inlays (e.g., some black opal rings).
